Avocado Chocolate Mousse (low carb, vegan)


There are times when it’s advised to be on a ketogenic diet. I’m not convinced that it’s good for athletes to go all keto, but I like to cycle my carbs now and then and eat low carb. Sometimes I have no other option than cutting out carbs.

Whenever you go low in carbs you must go high in fat. One of these situations can be the week of a weight cut. One of the most vital fat sources is avocado. It’s one of my most important fat sources during fight week.

But it’s not only then that I eat it. Besides coconut oil, eggs and fish, avocado is my main fat source. And what only few people know: You can eat avocado sweet!

Even though I’m against artificial sweeteners and prefer natural sweeteners, it’s ok to use a tiny bit of stevia or Xylitol now and then. The times I can’t eat natural sugars are very rare, which decreases the risk of getting anything bad from sugar alcohols or stevia.

As a child I loved a chocolate mousse called Paradise Cream. The Avocado Chocolate Mousse has the same texture and brings back those childhood memories.


Depending on how much chocolate and sweetener you use, there is still a slight avocado taste. It’s nice! Even my younger siblings liked it.

Avocado Chocolate Mousse

Ingredients (2 servings):

  • 1 small avocado
  • 2-4 psc dark chocolate 85-99%
  • 3 Tbsp maple syrup (or Xylitol for the keto version)
  • 3 Tbsp coconut milk


  1. Puree the avocado.
  2. Mix it with coconut milk and sweetener.
  3. Melt the chocolate in a bowl or spoon over hot water.
  4. Mix everything again, eat now or freeze for 30 min.
